Community Committees bring decision making to where it matters most.
Community Committees are the governing bodies, guiding the work of the First Nation School Board for their school. Community Committees can co-create and co-develop crucial elements of their school’s operations like school plans, policies, local and First Nation language programming, and more.
Community Committees are at the core of a system where Yukon First Nations’ communities assume responsibility and authority over the operation of their school and their children’s education.
Community Committee Agreements, signed between the First Nation School Board and the local First Nation(s), establish the committee and outline which powers of the Education Act will be shared.
Each school will operate differently from the next, reflecting the needs of the particular community and Learners. Similarly, Community Committee Agreements will be specific to the community and have the flexibility to change, adapt, and grow in time.
Help shape the future of your community school.
