Exploring Personal Identity
Learners in various Kindergarten classes have been invited to use loose parts every day, helping them share their thoughts and ideas in many different ways. One class was guided by the question, “How can we include all our emotions in our community?” This question encourages learners to explore their feelings and connect with others.
After a read-aloud story, the learners were excited by a new loose parts activity that asked them to create a self-portrait. Using mirrors to look at themselves, learners picked loose parts to represent who they are and how they were feeling. They then described their emotions using some of the new words they learned from the book.
This activity led to meaningful conversations and helped learners understand how to express all of their emotions. It gave them a chance to connect with themselves and their classmates in a deeper way. Through this fun and creative exploration into identity and emotions, learners are growing in self-awareness and building a stronger sense of self.
